Frequently Asked Questions
(I still need answers before I make a decision)
We know there are a lot of home care agencies in Fort Worth. The market for “typical” elder care services is crowded. We aren't your typical agency, however. Instead, we provide luxury, premium care for seniors of all activity levels. So, this FAQ is designed to answer your most pressing questions and communicate what makes MBF a unique and superior choice for your family.
Q: How rigorous are the background checks?
A: Mom's Best Friend has one of the industry's most rigorous screening process. A behavioral interview is conducted that focuses on the baseline skills. We focus on what candidates have done in fact and what skill sets and attitudes they bring to the table. A detailed interview sets the stage for what is to come. Our expectations of exceptional service are communicated right from the beginning. Candidates are also asked to screen themselves out of the position if they are honestly not able to guarantee the level of service we require. We also go beyond the basic state requirements of checking one's criminal history with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Employee Misconduct Registry. References are screened carefully and legal working status is a non-negotiable.
Q: What training do you provide for your caregivers?
A: Mom's Best Friend offers each caregiver a comprehensive 40 hour training program that includes testing. The program covers the basics of becoming a caregiver (duties, ethics, communication), foundational issues (client rights, promotion of independence, human needs, body systems and aging, disease, handling difficult situations/behaviors), emergency first aid (although MBF does only non-medical assistance as a matter of routine, MBF caregivers are trained for those emergency moments), nuts and bolts of caregiving (hydration, mobility, nutrition, toileting, safety, infection control), personal care (activities of daily living), crucial skills (observation, reporting, recording, stress management). On top of this rigorous course of training, each caregiver must complete MBF’s proprietary luxury care training program. It is here that our caregivers learn what it means to provide exceptional senior care service: executive wardrobe management and laundry service, fine light meal preparation (shopping and meal prep, special menus, MBF sweet treats), home revitalization, enhanced engagement services (trips to the arboretum, movie, senior center, theatre, museum).
Q: How much does your service cost?
A: Give us a call and discuss pricing with our Director. You will immediately see the value of having our team on your side.
Q: What do I do if I have a complaint?
A: MBF is committed to your total and complete satisfaction. To ensure this satisfaction, we have created an escalating complaint procedure. In the event that you have a problem or an issue, please follow these steps:
- MBF Clients are encouraged to immediately report complaints and concerns to the MBF Senior Care Administrator. The Administrator should resolve the matter in its entirety.
- If the matter is not addressed to your complete and total satisfaction, please ask for an available executive, manager or owner.
- If your complaint is still not addressed to your complete and total satisfaction, you may contact the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services at 1-800-458-9858.
MBF prohibits retaliation against anyone that files a complaint against MBF or cooperates with an investigation of any such complaint.
Q: Can you explain how you do assessments?
A: At your invitation, our Director of Senior Care Services will come to your home and do an extensive assessment of your situation. This assessment is complimentary. Our Director will be your “go to” person from that point on and will be available to advise and assist you in managing the aging process. She is a subject matter expert in the field and can help as you make critical decisions. One of our client’s put it this way, “In taking care of my Mom, I was frustrated by all the different variables, problems, issues, etc. I didn’t have the knowledge I needed and I didn’t have a plan. I felt like I needed a ‘quarterback’ to take over and help me win the game. When I hired MBF, I suddenly had a winning quarterback and it alleviated a lot of pressure.”
