Why use an in home care agency instead of hiring a caregiver on my own?
There may appear to be certain benefits when you hire on your own instead of using an in home care agency - it sure does seem less expensive! However, when you start to really look at the full costs, you could be taking on a lot more liability than you expected.
When you use an in home care agency like Mom's Best Friend, we recruit experienced caregivers and go through an extensive screening process. Caregivers complete an application, then we interview them, check references, run a criminal background check and other checks, and put them through a Mom's Best Friend-specific training. This elevates an already-experienced caregiver to the next level of service, where our goal is to anticipate the needs of our families, providing exceptional caregiving experience. We also continue to supervise the caregiver, and if they aren't a good match for your family, we have additional caregivers available who have already been through our process.
Furthermore, because caregivers are Mom's Best Friend employees, they are covered through our professional liability insurance, worker's compensation policy, unemployment insurance, and their payroll taxes are included in our fees. We also have back-up caregivers if your caregiver is ill or has vacation scheduled.
Many people think that these same rules will not apply if they hire directly, but unfortunately by law, you are obligated to cover the majority, if not all of these costs.
