Free Education to Help with Elderly Parents
How do I prepare myself?
As you begin to help with elderly parents, you will find yourself with lots of questions. After all, this is uncharted territory for you, and/or your siblings, to care for your parents. Maybe you've known a person or two who has been through this, but do you really know what you're getting yourself into? Claire Maestri, our administrator, is an expert who can speak to you, your immediate or extended family, or even a church group or office, about caring for elderly parents (at no charge). Below are the speaking topics we often cover:
- Four Signs you Need a Caregiver: Each situation is unique, however, after many years in the senior care business, Claire has observed consistent areas that families should monitor.
- How to Talk to an Aging Parent about Elder Care: This can be a difficult topic, but Claire has developed tactful, practical, effective techniques to have these conversations with your parent.
- How to Prepare for the Inevitable: Care as you Age: This discussion prepares families for the aging process (what to expect physically, emotionally, financially) much like you prepare a child to go off to college.
- How to Hire a Senior Caregiver: If it's time to begin a search, we can help you identify the characteristics you should look for in a caregiver. We will discuss the liabilities, insurance, and tax implications, as well as reference and background checks. We will also take you through the pros and cons of a private search versus an agency.
If you would like us to speak to you or a group in the Dallas area, please complete a Request Information Form with the topic you would like us to cover (or request another related topic!) and some dates that will work for you. We will leave plenty of time for Q&A about your specific situation so that we can equip you to better help with elderly parents!
